Sympathies & a Cyclist

Side Story

Fully awake and in total control, he was driving the bus smoothly ... and suddenly a cyclist jumped before the bus, out of nowhere ... he applied the breaks frantically, trying to save the cyclist ... the bus came to a standstill,  and then a young bus passenger caught hold of the driver's neck, few more passengers started shouting ... 'साले ... want to kill the cyclist or what ?...' ... the driver panicked and jumped from the right side to flee ... the passengers followed him, now joined by the passers-by ... a few minutes later he was lynched.

The cyclist who had fallen down on the right side of the bus, got up and vanished, putting behind the cycle which was slightly damaged ...

Distraction

Forget it, it happens ...

Main Story

A simple question- if a fight is going on between a man & a woman, without knowing the matter or the facts, who you would side with ? ... obviously the cyclist !

The Epicenter

As there are age old prejudices, there are age old sympathies!

Unrelated Story

Alongside the BRTS route in Ahmedabad, it has cycle tracks on both sides, and in the process the road for the other non-BRTS vehicles is narrowed down. There are hundreds of cyclists riding alongside this route, but the cycle tracks are never used. Shockingly enough, even the new routes have cycle tracks.

News Paper Reports on Unrelated Story

"I didn't notice any cyclists pedalling on cycle tracks along the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor," observed Clinton Bench, one of the 16 US transport experts who took a ride in the BRTS from RTO to Maninagar on Monday. He is part of a delegation from 13 different cities of US that is in Ahmedabad to study public transport.

Related with Unrelated

Interviews with some cyclists suggest that they never use the cycle tracks. Some even boasted that they ride bicycles in zigzag manner, race with the big vehicles and bully their drivers!

The Purpose

Please excuse me ... putting aside the scattered pieces of the story, I suddenly feel nauseous and feel an uncontrollable desire to lynch the cyclist!

The Battlefield House

In the backdrop of the Himalayan mountains, surrounded by the pine trees, was this Wakefield Estate. This story is about what went around the Wakefield Estate and the life and times of the Wakefields ...

Hey, hey ... your imagination is going too far! This story is neither about the Wakefield Estate nor about the Wakefields!

But 'Battlefield' can't be a surname, Wakefield is!

So, the title of the blog has created this confusion. Let us change it.

The House named - Battlefield.

The house was named - 'Battlefield' ... and everyone around was shocked and puzzled -  Battlefield? , Come on, you don't name your house- 'Battlefield', how could you?!

But the house was indeed named- Battlefield

A-ina to Z-ina walked along the internal road of the housing society during the morning and evening hours. Whereas this walk was more of a routine affair, this Battlefield naming added a topic for discussion in their otherwise dull walks and talks.

Aina -> Bina  '... the uncle must be an ex-serviceman? ...'

Cina -> Dina  ' ... is he a war veteran? ...'

Eina -> Fina   ' ... could be a Kargil war hero ...'

Gina -> Hina  ' ... looks like he is the 1971 war Gallantry Medal winner ...'

Iina -> Jina     ' ... can't be, he doesn't look that old ...'

Kina and Lina went a little step ahead, and collected the dust around the house and through their connections         got it checked, whether it contained gun powder?! Report was negative.

Mina -> Nina ' ... could he be a terrorist? ...'

Oina -> Pina  ' ... so serious looking ... could be ... can't say! ...'

Qina -> Rina  ' ... but you hardly hear any fight going on inside ... except an angry high pitch voice of the auntie ... but that is quite rightful! ...' added the feminist activist.

Sina -> Tina  ' ... must be a Rajput - the warrior ...'

Uina -> Vina ' ... quite absurd, how could anyone name ...? ..."

Wina & Xina tried unsuccessfully to look through the windows to see whether any Gallantry Medal or a Certificate or a Wall Mount Animal Head was there on the wall. Nothing fruitful transpired.

When Yina & Zina were passing through the house, they heard a thud ... and there ... there ... the door opened ... Yina & Zina stopped and remained motionless ... the newspaper man had just thrown the newspaper, and our warlord had come out to pick it ...

Zina scared and haltingly - ' ... Sir, the house ... how come it is named Battlefield ? ...'

He stared at her sternly, ready to swallow her ... ' ... life is but a battle ... and ...' the door slammed- questioning - '... and where do you learn the lessons of life? ...'.

Money is static, Wealth is elastic

Money is static, a hundred dollar bill will fetch you, things worth hundred dollars, nothing more, nothing less. If you try to stretch a currency note, it will tear, and the two torn pieces of that hundred dollar bill, will not become 100 + 100 or 200 dollars. In India, you will have to exchange these torn pieces at a discount, as torn currency is not a legal tender.

Wealth is elastic, it either contracts, or expands, but mostly it expands- because wealth is money + time,  and time pays over time! Very rarely, wealth contracts ... in cases where the nature of wealth itself is volatile or risky ... or due to some economic crises ...

Money is Static

He earned Rs. 70,000 a month. 10,000 went to the tax-man, 25,000 towards rent, the maid took 5,000, food & recreation 20,000, emergencies had a share of 5,000, rest was entrusted to the mother Merry, who was a commerce graduate from a reputed university, and felt safe with cash and kept money in the cupboard.

He had a dream, to study at an American University. Alas! the dream was shattered. He wanted to get admitted to some American University after two years, but the accumulated static money was not enough even to visit Kashmir or Kanyakumari.

Even after five years, he was shocked to find that the total accumulated static sum was not enough to get him admitted, even to a neighboring Bangladesh University, though the course fees and the air fare was very less, in comparison with the US.

The young lad, stays put in City-B.

Wealth is Elastic

He earned Rs. 70,000 a month, paid neither tax nor rent, as he bough a house of his own. He asked his mother to join him, saved on outside food bills, even the maid charged only a few hundreds, with home food no emergency funds were provided for. A lot could be saved and invested.

After two years, joined another company in another city. The old house was rented to friends, which itself was more than the housing loan instalment.

Warren Buffet says, you should not be dependent on a single income, and should have another source of income too, and second thing - do not save, what is left after spending, but -spend only the amount, which is left out after saving!

He bought another house, in the new city. One and a half year later, went to the US, and is now the Dean of the Howard University in Washington, D. C., capital of United States of America!

Postscript

Once you have read this, take out the currency notes from your purse or pocket, try to stretch it, see for yourself, whether it is static or elastic, and then - INVEST

Librarian - the best thing !

I do not believe in astrology, but do glance at the daily forecast published in the news papers, and forget about it, the very next moment.

There is one very interesting thing about this daily forecast .......... so much is said, in very few words ........ most of the times, I enjoy the setting of the wordings, and sometime the amusing content ............

LIBRA

Your power lies in your poetic command of language. In plain terms, that means you'll be persuading people who do not want things that they really do need ! The best way to deal with troublesome children and awkward adults is probably to convince them that you're the best thing since the world was invented.
